Michael Jackson's family consider legal action against Martin Bashir
Believe he could have been tricked into 2003 the documentary Living with Michael Jackson
n the wake of recent revelations against the BBC and Martin Bashir's now infamous interview with Princess Diana, Michael Jackson's family are now threatening legal against against the journalist.
Bashir produced a documentary on Michael Jackson in 2003 - Living with Michael Jackson - which focussed on his life at the Neverland ranch. Bashir was critical of the singer's relationships with minors and hinted at accusations of sexual abuse.
In the documentary Jackson did not apologise for sharing a bed with 13-year-old Gavin Arvizo, branding it "the most loving thing you can do". And was subsequently prosecuted for alleged abuse of Arvizo in 2005, though was found not guilty.
"I think I just want to hear accountability,"Michael Jackson's nephew Taj told Good Morning Britain. "I want there to be an investigation.

The Los Angeles Superior Court this morning ruled against Wade Robson in CASE NO. BC508502 in claims against corporations owned by Michael Jackson and/or the Estate of Michael Jackson and dismissed his case again. The Michael Jackson Estate is represented by the late Howard Weitzman and Jonathan Steinsapir of Kinsella Weitzman Iser Kump LLP. Statement from Mr. Steinsapir:
“As of today, a summary judgment AGAINST Wade Robson has been granted three different times by two different judges of the Superior Court.
“Wade Robson has spent the last 8 years pursuing frivolous claims in different lawsuits against Michael Jackson’s estate and companies associated with it. Robson has taken nearly three dozen depositions and inspected and presented hundreds of thousands of documents trying to prove his claims, yet a Judge has once again ruled that Robson’s claims have no merit whatsoever, that no trial is necessary and that his latest case is dismissed,” said Jonathan Steinsapir, attorney for the Estate of Michael Jackson.
Previously, the case brought by James Safechuck against the Jackson estate was thrown out.
Robson and Safechuck not only sued Jackson but participated in the HBO documentary directed by Dan Reed in which they alleged molestation years after Jackson died. Oprah Winfrey bought their story hook, line, and sinker, and conducted interviews with them allowing the men to allege accusations without any solid evidence. Now the court has ruled against them. It’s over.

Howard Weitzman, Powerful Hollywood Lawyer, Dies at 81

Howard Weitzman, the high-powered Hollywood lawyer with an A-list clientele that included O.J. Simpson and Michael Jackson, died Wednesday following a battle with cancer, a representative of his firm, Kinsella Weitzman Iser Kump & Aldisert, told TheWrap. He was 81.
Weitzman, a founding partner Kinsella Weitzman Iser Kump, represented some of the biggest names in entertainment. He was the Michael Jackson estate’s attorney during its battle with the IRS, and successfully defended automaker John DeLorean during his infamous drug trafficking trial in the 1980s.
He rose to public notoriety in the early 1990s when he initially represented O.J. Simpson after Simpson’s arrest for murder, before stepping down citing an inability to lessen his other work; he was portrayed by actor Ken Lerner in the acclaimed miniseries “The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story.”
Weitzman also served high-powered Hollywood executives, among them Ron Meyer, whom Weitzman represented in negotiations for Meyer’s exit from Universal, which are still ongoing.
His firm paid tribute in a statement: “A renowned trial lawyer and dealmaker, Howard skillfully handled some of the most famous cases in Hollywood. Howard’s wit, charm and brilliant legal mind are legendary, and we will miss him dearly. … RIP Howard, you will always be a giant.”
Born in Los Angeles in 1939, Weitzman was a USC graduate who passed the California bar in 1966 and later taught at the school for 12 years. After becoming a managing partner at the firm Weitzman Wyman Bautzer in 1986, he co-founded Katten Muchin Zavis & Weitzman in 1991. Weitzman left to become executive vice president for corporate operations at Universal Studios from 1995 to 1998 before returning to private practice. Weitzman would go on to co-found Kinsella Weitzman Iser Kump & Aldisert in 2006.
Weitzman was also an adviser to film productions and an occasional actor. He appeared on screen in the 2001 film “Corky Romano” and 2005’s “Thank You for Smoking,” and served as a legal adviser for the 2014-16 TV series “Murder in the First,” among other credits.
Weitzman had been married twice — first to Stacey Weitzman from 1969-1976, and to Margaret Weitzman until his death. He had two sons, Jed Weitzman and actor Armen Weitzman.

Few days ago, Taj Jackson has given the fans an update on his upcoming documentary series “The Truth Runs Marathons”.

“I know we are all fatigued and exhausted. Probably wondering if we are still making a difference and getting through to people regarding Michael’s innocence. You are starting to feel like a broken record. “Does what you do even matter anymore?”, you ask yourself.
Well I can say first hand, it does. Not only to the general public, but to me. You guys truly fuel me. The support for my tireless dedication and constant fight for my uncle comes directly from you guys. I read your messages, I see your tweets defending my uncle and it fills me with more pride and determination.
Always remember.., we are on the right side of History. And Justice for Michael Jackson is something very important to us. I don’t know if you all saw the impact the just released “Free Britney” documentary had on the public. Now imagine an even bigger and better result for Michael Jackson. I told you before, my goal with this project is to both PERMANENTLY change the narrative of Michael Jackson and CEMENT his greatness and legacy.
Unfortunately because we are still in a pandemic, things are moving way slower than I ever wished. Fortunately there is a light at the end of this COVID tunnel and I look forward to quickly getting things moving again once restrictions lighten up more. And it’s not like I have just been sitting on my hands waiting either. . Everyday I am either doing interviews fighting for my uncle’s innocence, or working on this project and how to best and most effectively get it done with the greatest impact.
I heard some people publically doubt that this project will ever be finished. And although I really do understand their frustrations, I don’t think anybody understands the strength of my love for my uncle and the incredible bond we had. This is a promise I made to him over 25 years ago and I still remember it as if it were yesterday. I promised to always stand up for him and his legacy. Even when others wouldn’t.
I won’t stop until this project is done and something he would be proud of me for.
Now more than ever I am excited and optimistic because “a change is gonna come “(to quote the late great Sam Cooke) and I can see it happening already.

John Branca speaks to Billboard about Sony/ATV Publishing 
While the Wade Robson’s case has been reschedule to April 20 due to the death of Jon Steinsapir’s daughter Molly [The case was supposed to take place on February 24, 2021], John Branca had the time to speak to Billboard about the rebranding of Sony/ATV Publishing.
John Branca seems to have made peace with the same Billboard that supported “Leaving Neverland” few years back.
In the recent interview Branca revealed “Michael’s dream was to create the biggest publisher in the world, Michael is the person who was single-handedly most responsible for the growth of Sony/ATV. That’s not to take anything away from [former chairman/CEO] Martin Bandier, who was very influential and instrumental in growing the company, or present chairman/CEO Jon Platt, with whom the company is in great hands. But it really started with Michael.”
Branca also told Billboard that Michael was determined to get the Beatles Catalog: “He appreciated great songs and great songwriting and in his mind the Beatles were the greatest. So when the Beatles catalog came up, my God, he couldn’t rest. It took almost a year to finish that deal and get that catalog, but I can’t tell you how excited he was.”
Branca also shared memories about Michael and how excited he was about publishing rights:
“I remember mentioning to him that growing up, I’d been a fan of Dion and the Belmonts and noted that Dion’s “Runaround Sue” and “The Wanderer” were for sale. Michael said, “I don’t know those songs; send them over.” Michael would always spend Sundays dancing, so on Monday morning, he called me up: “Branca, Branca. I love the songs! We’ve got to get them. I danced all day to ‘Runaround Sue.’’’ Michael was passionate beyond belief.”

Michael Jackson Accuser James Safechuck Has Revived Abuse Lawsuit Dismissed 
One of Michael Jackson's "Leaving Neverland" accusers just suffered a huge defeat in court ... the judge threw out his revived lawsuit over alleged abuse.
James Safechuck's 2014 lawsuit against MJ's companies -- MJJ Productions and MJJ Ventures Inc. -- was brought back to life by the State of California earlier this year ... when Gov. Gavin Newsom signed a law extending the statute of limitations for alleged victims
The upshot of the judge's opinion is that Safechuck and his legal team presented no facts to support their key argument -- namely, that honchos at MJJ Productions and MJJ Ventures Inc. had a legal obligation to supervise MJ's behavior in the '90s ... when he allegedly abused James as a child back then.
The judge wasn't buying it, concluding MJ was the owner and sole shareholder of both of these companies, so how could his employees rein in their own boss?
The court found that since Mike was essentially the top dog, there was no evidence his subordinates had the power to supervise him. Safechuck had also argued ... while he was hanging out with MJ, the companies served a quasi-parental role -- meaning they would have had a duty to protect him.
The judge didn't bite on that either, finding James' side didn't lay out enough facts to support that claim.
James can appeal the ruling if he wants -- as it stands, however, he's lost this case against MJ's companies.

A few weeks ago I told the Michael Jackson fans on Twitter that I good news coming for them. SiriusXM was working on dedicating a channel to the late King of Pop.
I knew what was happened, but I paused out of deference to Sirius, which I love. They weren’t ready, I was told through backchannels.
So of course, no good deed goes unpunished. Today they announced it. I can tell you that Sirius is doing a bunch of new dedicated channels. Bob Marley is getting one. Prince won’t be far off.
The stars who have them now are The Beatles, Elvis, Bruce Springsteen, Billy Joel, Tom Petty, the Grateful Dead, Frank Sinatra and pals. and a few others. Sirius is flexible enough to do pop up channels when they’re necessary. The artist just had to have a big enough catalog, and a management or record company willing to collaborate.
The Michael Jackson channel will be a big hit, I predict. There’s plenty of music. And if it’s handled as skillfully as the Beatles channel, there will be plenty of interviews and clips and audience interaction.
So that was my news, it’s just something nice we can all enjoy.

Quincy Jones Loses $6.9 Million on Michael Jackson Verdict Appeal 
An appellate court ruled on Tuesday that the Michael Jackson estate does not have to pay $6.9 million in royalties and fees to Quincy Jones.
The three-judge panel of the 2nd Appellate District overturned the bulk of a 2017 jury verdict, finding that the trial judge had allowed the jury to misinterpret Jones’ contract.
Jones’ attorneys had argued that the producer was entitled to some $30 million in royalties and other income derived from the “This Is It” concert film, two Cirque du Soleil shows and other revenue streams that followed Jackson’s death in 2009. After a two-week trial, the jurors awarded Jones $9.4 million.
But on Tuesday, the appeals court took most of it back, saying that Judge Michael L. Stern had erred by not interpreting the contract himself, and instead leaving it up to the jurors.
After Jackson’s death, his estate negotiated an increased share of profits through a joint venture with Sony, going from 50% to two-thirds. Jones’ attorneys argued at trial that he was entitled under his producer contract to a proportional increase in royalties. The jury agreed, granting Jones $5.3 million in joint venture profits.
But the appeals court ruled that Jones’ producer contracts did not entitle him to such an increase.
“The language of section 4(a) cannot be tortured to mean that Jones’s maximum royalty rate increased proportionally if Jackson’s maximum royalty rate increased,” wrote Justice Judith Ashmann-Gerst, on behalf of a unanimous panel.
The court also vacated an award of $1.6 million in remix fees, which Jones claimed he was owed. Jones’ contract gave him first right of refusal on remixes of his Jackson albums, which he was not afforded. But the panel held he was not entitled to be paid fees for remixing work that he did not perform.
“The only compensation Jones was entitled to receive was royalties from record sales on remixes, and the evidence indicates he received them,” Ashmann-Gerst wrote. “If he wanted remixing fees, he had to negotiate them in separate agreements.”
The court left in place the remaining $2.6 million awarded to Jones, which consisted of unpaid license fees from “This Is It,” plus other fees and interest.
Jones had also appealed two of Stern’s rulings that went against him. His attorneys argued he should have been allowed to claim elder abuse, and should have been awarded interest on a greater portion of the damages award. Those appeals were both denied.
Howard Weitzman, who represented the Jackson estate, issued a statement claiming vindication.
“Quincy Jones was the last person we thought would try to take advantage of Michael Jackson by filing a lawsuit three years after he died asking for tens of millions of dollars he wasn’t entitled to,” Weitzman said. “We knew the verdict was wrong when we heard it, and the court of appeal has completely vindicated us. From the beginning this was an attempt to take advantage of Michael knowing he wasn’t here to defend himself.”
John Branca, co-executor of the estate, also issued a comment: “So many people have tried to take advantage of Michael and mischaracterize him since his death. It’s gratifying that in this case the court in an overwhelmingly favorable and just decision, recognizes that Michael Jackson was both an enormous talent and an extremely fair business executive.”
Kirk Dillman, an attorney representing Jones, also put out a statement in which he chose to look on the bright side: “While we disagree with portions of the Court’s decision and are evaluating our options going forward, we are pleased that the Court affirmed the jury’s determination that MJJP failed to pay Quincy Jones more than $2.5M that it owed him.”
